TEXAS NATIONAL STOCK SHOW

There are 3 (three) separate Categories of pigs from which class winners, breed champions, reserve breed champions, grand champion and reserve grand champion will be selected. They are Barrows, Purebred Gilts, and Crossbred Gilts. Purebred Gilts and Crossbred Gilts will not show against each other.

Both barrows and gilts will be SHOWED BY WEIGHT ONLY, NOT AGE. All pigs must weigh within 10lbs of the stated registration weight. Pigs that exceed the 10 lbs. weigh back will be disqualified.

The weight limit for the TNSS are as flows:
Prospect Gilts – 199lbs or less.
Prospect Barrows – 199lbs or less.
Breeding Gilts – 190lbs. to 375lbs.
Market Barrows – 190lbs. to 310lbs.

The Judges decisions on classification and placing are final. Classification standards are below.

The show management reserves the right to disqualify any exhibitor or anyone for any reason and ask them to leave the premises. Please act right which means, no animal abuse, no drug use by pigs or people, and use sportsman like conduct.

All purebred gilts exhibiting in every show must upload registration papers in the exhibitor's name to enter the show. 

Breeding Gilts and Market Barrows exhibitors will be eligible for scholarships at the TNSS. Prospect Gilts, Prospect Barrows, Breeding Gilts, and Market Barrows exhibitors will all be eligible for cash and prizes.

An Exhibitor may only receive Scholarship awards on their highest placing Breeding Gilt and their highest placing Market Barrow each year. Scholarships may be awarded to Exhibitors that have received scholarships in previous years. The same Exhibitor may be awarded scholarships for their highest placing Breeding Gilt and highest placing Market Barrow in the same year.

Barrow and Gilt Show Exhibitors must be between 6 and 20 years of age on the day on January 1 , 2023.

Only Exhibitors will be allowed in the holding area and exit alley during the show.

All protests filed must be done in writing explaining the reasons, signed by the protest initiator, and after paying a $250 protest fee.

All pigs placing in the top 5, breed champion, or reserve breed champion and required to take a backdrop photo with the exhibitor and pig.

Showmanship age divisions:

PeeWee - Under 6
Junior - 6-10
Intermediate - 11-15
Senior - 16-20

None of the TNSS shows are terminal.

BARROW SHOW CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS

Barrows will NOT be classified but must follow these classification standards.

Rules list

BERKSHIRE (BARROWS)
1. Black and white with erect ears exhibiting Berkshire character.
2. A Berkshire must have white on face and tail (unless tail is docked). Three of the four legs must be white.
3. A Berkshire must NOT have a solid white or a solid black face from the ears forward.
4. A Berkshire must NOT have a solid black nose (rim of nose).
5. White is allowed on the ears, but neither ear can be entirely white.
6. An occasional splash of white may appear on the body.

CHESTER WHITE (LIGHT OPB BARROWS)

1. Must possess Chester White breed character.
2. Must be solid white in color, no color on the skin larger than a silver dollar, no colored hair.
3. Ears must be down and medium size.
4. Any signs of weighted ear tags or evidence of past existence of such ear tags are determined to be not permissible and are grounds for disqualification.

LANDRACE (LIGHT OPB BARROWS)

1. Must be white in color and possess Landrace breed character. (ears must be down)
2. Must NOT allow any color hair other than white.
3. Must NOT allow more than three spots of skin pigmentation.
4. Must NOT allow any spot of skin pigmentation larger than one U.S. minted quarter.

DUROC BARROWS

1. Must be red in color and possess Duroc breed character. (ears must be down and medium size)
2. Must NOT have any white hair located on the animal.
3. Must NOT have any black hair.
4. Must NOT have more than three black spots on the skin and none of these spots can be larger than two inches in diameter.
5. Must NOT have any shading or indication of a belt.

HAMPSHIRE (BARROWS)

1. Must be black in color with a white belt starting on a front leg. The belt may partially or totally encircle the body.
2. Must possess Hampshire Breed character. (ears must be erect and not rounded)
3. Must NOT have any white hair or indications of streaking on the forehead.
4. Must NOT have any red hair.

SPOT (BARROWS)

1. Must be black and white.
2. Must possess Spotted breed character.
3. Ears cannot be erect.
4. Any red tinted or brown spots are ineligible.
5. No solid black head from ears forward.
6. No distinct white belt pattern (hair or skin) encircling and extending down and onto each shoulder.
7. Any signs of weighted ear tags or evidence of past existence such ear tags are determined to be not permissible and are grounds for disqualification.

AOB (ALL OTHER BREEDS BARROWS)

1. AOB'S can be Poland China, Tamworth, Hereford, or other unrepresented breeds. They must have the breed character of their respective breed to be considered in this division.
2. The Judge will make the final decision on classification.

YORKSHIRE (BARROWS)

1. Must be white in color and possess Yorkshire breed character. (ears must be erect)
2. Must NOT have any colored hair other than white.
3. Must NOT have colored skin pigmentation larger than one U.S. minted silver dollar.
4. Must NOT have masking above the eyes larger than a silver dollar.

ALL BLACK CROSSBRED (BARROWS AND GILTS)

1. Solid Black, no white or red skin or hair.

LIGHT CROSSBRED (BARROWS AND GILTS)

1. Barrows with blue, gray, sandy, rusty, orange or roan pigmentation. (coloration may be belted, patched or spotted.)
2. Barrows with predominately white, blue, gray, rusty, orange or roan pigmentation which have small areas of black and/or red pigmentation on any part of the body that amount to less than20% of total body area.
 

DARK CROSSBRED (BARROWS AND GILTS)

1. Barrows with black and/or red pigmentation, (i.e. not sandy, rusty, orange, roan, gray or blue) on any part of the body amounting to 20 or more of total body area, but not solid black.
2. Barrows may be black or red belted, black or red patched or spotted.
3. Barrows with only blue, rusty, sandy, orange, and gray pigmentation areNOTconsidered a Dark Cross.
